Hi, I’m Broken is a podcast released every other week featuring stories from the mentally ill.
Mental illnesses are anything that can affect behavior and lead to suffering or poor ability to function. Mental illnesses can involve anything from depression to schizophrenia to obsessive compulsive disorder and are officially classified in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, published by the American Psychiatric Association. More information can be found at www.dsm5.org.
Millions of people are afflicted with some sort of mental illness. Depression affects 400 million alone. Many of those are commonly sidelined and thrown aside, assumed to be entirely dysfunctional and beyond help.
Because of the stigma against mental illness, many who are afflicted go their entire lives refusing to seek help and remain undiagnosed, often to their own detriment. We believe that with more open and accepting discussions about mental illness, more people will be able to step forward and get the help they need to become fully functional members of society.
Hi, I’m Broken was created to help fight that stigma and increase acceptance of those with mental illnesses. Every other week, we will feature one story from an everyday person, trying to live their life to the best of their ability.
